The EPA has established national ambient air quality standards (NAAQS) that define limits on concentrations of six of the most common air pollutants in the air we breathe. They are: ozone (O3), particulate matter, carbon monoxide (CO), nitrogen oxides (NOx), sulfur dioxides (SOx), and lead (Pb).
