In case you haven’t heard, the PA General Assembly and Governor Josh Shapiro re-enacted “Solar for Schools” legislation, as well as $25 million in the state budget for grants for schools to go solar! The PA Solar Center is encouraging schools to enter our GET Solar Schools program to learn more about the legislation, receive technical assistance, and to help prepare to access the funds, as well as federal and utility incentives, to go solar.

Join us on Friday, January 23, to learn more about the program from the program’s founder, state Representative Elizabeth Fiedler. Following her presentation, Devin Gray from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development will go over the guidelines for the program and the application process, and Liz Robinson, Executive Director of the Philadelphia Solar Energy Association, will review the Solar for Schools toolkit that they have created.

Then the PA Solar Center will review our GET Solar Schools technical assistance program, which helps schools assess their solar feasibility and estimate their savings from going solar, as well as understand how to access all possible financial options. In addition, the PA Solar Center’s GET Solar team can help schools place their projects out for bid and find qualified professionals to install solar.

More and more schools have been going solar, with about 5 percent of Pennsylvania schools already making the switch and more than 60 schools currently enrolled in GET Solar Schools. These schools are offsetting anywhere between 65% to 110% percent of their previous energy costs per year. Some schools have even eliminated their energy bills altogether and are reinvesting those energy cost savings back into the classroom.

For Pennsylvania schools who haven’t flipped the switch just yet, the reinstatement of this solar grant fund makes the math of going solar even more attractive. The PA Solar Center’s GET Solar Schools program will help you review all of your options and help you every step of the way until you officially flip the switch to solar.

Learn more about the state’s Solar for Schools grant and the PA Solar Center’s GET Solar Schools program at our webinar on Friday, January 23rd!
