A year ago, the Allegheny County Health Department (ACHD) proposed a fee increase, to be paid by polluting industries, for processing their Title V operating permits. This would provide the additional funds for ACHD to fill vacant positions required to protect the health of residents. At the request of the leadership of ACHD, we have devoted most of the last year to promoting the fee increase, but Council has failed to act. We are inviting Council members to attend this session to share with their constituents the reason why they support or are opposed to the recommendation of their health department, and to hear the comments and questions of their constituents. The Allegheny County Executive will be unable to attend, but we will update her after the Town Hall. The meeting will begin with a presentation by Dr. Deborah A. Gentile on her recent research on the impact that our air pollution — some of the worst in the nation — has had on young asthma victims.
Please REGISTER TODAY and be prepared to ask questions of our elected officials and share your thoughts on the need for this proposal to be approved.
