We live in one of the worst 1% of places in the country for air pollution-related diseases, yet Allegheny County Council members have failed to pass their Health Department’s proposed fee increase, paid by polluters, for the permits that allow them to operate.
For the past eleven months, we have responded to the request of the Allegheny County Health Department to support their recommendation.
A headcount at Allegheny County Council has consistently come up short of the 10 votes necessary for passage.
Simultaneously, Pittsburgh Regional Transit is proposing fare increases and massive cutbacks in service, leaving 3 neighborhoods and 19 municipalities with no transportation at all.
All this is happening while Allegheny County is spending $1.7 billion for a new airport that we don’t need!
At the town hall, we will be inviting a team of experts who have joined us in advocating for the fee increase. That panel will raise questions about why our elected officials have abandoned those who they are sworn to serve.
