CURRENT BEAVER CAMPAIGNS

PennFuture's Toxic Neighbor Campaign

Emissions from a developing, massive Shell petrochemical plant in Beaver County would contain a toxic mix of pollutants – particulate matter, sulfur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds, such as acrolein, benzene, toluene and naphthalene – that exacerbate symptoms of asthma and cause cancer.Pennsylvania taxpayers will contribute $1.65 billion in taxpayer dollars toward the construction of the plant which will bring in 600 permanent full-time jobs. This equates to a subsidy of $2,670,000 per job.The plant will emit three times the pollution level of Clairton Coke Works.

Fighting Petrochemical Industry Buildout

Residents of SWPA are fighting a David vs. Goliath battle against the petrochemical industry in our region and beyond to Ohio and West Virginia. The Appalachian Basin is faced with the massive growth of this highly polluting fossil fuel industry from cracker plants to pipelines, compressor stations, drilling operations, wellpads, a storage hub and truck traffic.  his industry will push our planet over the edge on climate change, making it absolutely impossible to meet Paris Accord Climate Goals.

CAC's Southwest Pennsylvania Neighbors for Clean Air

The goal of the Southwest PA Neighbors for Clean Air initiative is to create 100 neighborhood groups of 10 members throughout the region so that residents can learn about and take action on the most pressing environmental issues in Southwest Pennsylvania. In the nine months since the first leader training session, CAC has trained over 80 group leaders, and 20 groups now meet regularly. Contact Jay Walker ([email protected]) to join a group or find out more information.
