The deadly explosion at Clairton Coke Works (CCW) on August 11 shook the community, killing two workers and critically injuring several more.
This 123 year-old plant’s equipment failures are legendary, with the facility consistently ranking as our region’s number one source of particle and toxic air pollution, spewing emissions that lead to the premature death of residents, especially those living closest to the plant.
Town Hall #17 will bring the voices of workers and residents together to demand that Nippon and the U.S. government fulfill USS’s commitment to invest $3.4 billion in its Mon Valley works, in order to prevent the next disaster, and to make the necessary changes to end ongoing worker and community harms.
During our open discussion at the end of the Town Hall, you will have the chance to add your voice to the demand that USS and Nippon be held accountable for the death and destruction that CCW and the USS Mon Valley Works have allowed to plague our region for generations.
