Allegheny County Ohio River Communities

Allegheny County Clean Air Now was one of the first community organizations to take on air quality through the campaign to close down the Shenango Coke Works.


Citizens to Protect the Ambridge Reservoir (CAPR) works to protect this pristine source of drinking water and prevent the construction of the Falcon Pipeline and other oil and gas operations related to the Shell petrochemical facility.


Beaver County Marcellus Awareness Community (BCMAC) works to protect the public health of citizens against the buildout of the petrochemical industry and Marcellus Shale development. The group meets the last Monday of the month and offers educational programming and is striving to develop a new energy economy based on renewable energy sources.


North Braddock Residents for Our Future is a grassroots group of residents organized to promote community health and clean air and fight unconventional gas drilling in our community.


U.S. Steel’s Clairton Coke Works is the largest coke-making facility and the United States and the largest polluter in Allegheny County. The community is organizing through the grassroots group VCAN to ensure this plant meets health-based air emissions limits.

East End - Pittsburgh

Residents living in the East End of Pittsburgh, including Squirrel Hill, are advocating for cleaner air to breathe.The community includes but is not limited to neighborhoods east of Downtown: Oakland, Shadyside, Squirrel Hill, Greenfield, Bloomfield, Lawrenceville, Polish Hill, Morningside, Garfield, Stanton Heights, East Liberty, Lincoln-Larimer, Highland Park, Point Breeze, Bakery Square and Regent Square.

Franklin Park

Protect Franklin Park is a grassroots group dedicated to protecting the environmental health and safety of Franklin Park Borough residents through information, action and advocacy.

Indiana Township/Fox Chapel Area

Fox Chapel Area Fracking Awareness is a forum for citizens who live and work near a new hydraulic fracturing site above Emmerling Park and near Fox Chapel Area schools.


Lawrenceville Clean Air Now (LCAN) in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh is a grassroots group addressing local and county air pollution and protecting public health.

North Side

Rail Pollution Protection Pittsburgh (RP3) is a group of Pittsburgh residents committed to addressing the risk and impacts that expanding rail transport – and related oil/petrochemical facilities – have on nearby communities, especially public health, safety, air and water quality.


Protect PT is a nonprofit citizens group dedicated to ensuring that the safety, security, and quality of life of community members are protected from the effects of unconventional gas development.

Sewickley and Sewickley Valley

Communities First Sewickley Valley (C1) is a group that works to protect the health, safety and the environment in Sewickley, PA. Currently the group is focusing efforts on raising awareness about the proposed Shell Cracker Plant in Potter Township, and its impact on local air quality and public health.
