Large plumes of steam and smoke are seen here from the Clairton plant. Notice the lighter smoke and how much longer it is visible over the quickly disappearing steam.
In this clip notice the different types of emission in each stack. On the right and left main stack these emissions are full of steam and have heavy white smoke. The middle stack has no steam and you can see a light transparent smoke. This middle smoke is full of particulates and potentially harmful materials.
Steady spires of smoke, steam and fire flares seen coming from the Irvin facility in the early morning hours.
These stacks may not look like they are emitting dense clouds of pollutants, yet we can clearly see a constant release of emissions. This steady stream has no steam mixed in and little water vapor which helps create those large white clouds of smoke.
White smoke of varying opacity is shown here. Notice the change over time of the smokes color.
CREATE Lab’s Breathe Cams provide high resolution views of three industrial plants in the Monongahela Valley communities of Clairton, Braddock and West Mifflin as well as a panoramic view of the Mon Valley. Breathe Cams also provide views of three neighborhoods in the City of Pittsburgh: Downtown, Oakland, and the North Shore. All of these cameras capture visual images of our air so that we can understand the air we breathe.
